Mentoring & Guidance Services

Do you need help with your photography, on taking it to the next level? Perhaps I can help you, with some one-to-one guidance and support.

I’ve had a career in reportage and documentary photography for three decades, working on assignments for international clients, sending back images from the boardrooms of Tokyo and from the rainforests of Papua New Guinea, and everywhere in between. But all the skills that I’ve learned over the years are transferable.

The knowledge I’ve built up can be used everywhere, here in our own communities, and at all levels of photography.

With the experience I have I can help you with your photography, help you gain more from your photographic outings, and to help you improve.

By talking online, or in person over a coffee, or by taking a walk together to go photograph, we can discuss ways to move your photography forward.

Let me assist you.

  • A man in a blue shirt with a white stripe, standing in a gallery, pointing at a photo of a parade with flags and crowds.

    Reviewing your photographs

Looking at the photographs you’ve already taken. Together we can discuss their strengths and weaknesses. And having done so, discuss your aims, and find the points to work on, to improve your skills and images.

  • A man wearing a suit and glasses stands on stage holding a remote control, with a dark background displaying the text 'Satra, The Roma of Sintesti - J. Hibbert'.

    Approaching photographic projects

Do you struggle to know how to find and photograph the stories that interest you? I can help you, we can discuss how to start a project, the things to think about. And how to bring a variety of photographs to a project, and why that’s important.

  • Black and white contact sheets with photographs of children, some sitting, some standing, in various settings.

    Editing your photographs

Perhaps you need assistance editing some photographs, or in building a portfolio to enter college, or you have a portfolio you wish to enter to a competition? We can chat it over, discuss the requirements, and determine an approach which will work.

  • Large crowd of people gathered on a city street, with police and barriers managing the scene, in front of historic buildings with a church steeple visible in the background, under a cloudy sky.

    Walk, talk & photograph

Do you just wish some guidance out and about, walking with your camera, and figuring out how to get the most out of the situations we encounter in the streets? We can do this together, walking, photographing and talking, and maybe grab a coffee to look at photos.

Do get in touch, and we can chat to discuss your thoughts, the questions you have and the problems you may wish to solve, and we can take it from there.  We can discuss costs of the mentoring service, or of 1-to-1 walks and photographing, and your budget, and find solutions.

I look forward to hearing from you, and to helping you move your photography up a level. Who knows, we may both learn from each other, and have a fun time doing so.
